You Are What You Think
They say you are what you eat. If you eat your greens you’ll be lean and mean. If you eat fat and greasy foods you will be a fat and greasy dude.
This may be true to some extent, but I believe that a more accurate statement is: You Are What You Think.
There is a virus of negativity that runs through our world and begs us to join in on the fun. Be negative! All the cool kids are doing it.
The problem is that the more we allow these negative thoughts to live inside our brain the more we become a truly negative person. Our attitude spirals downward quicker than a drunk pilot’s airplane.
For the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down arguments and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
God’s Word tells us that we need to take these negative thoughts prisoner. We need to lock them up and throw away the key. Stop listening to them. Beat them into submission until they obey Christ.
We all battle with bad attitudes from time to time. It is usually because we forget that we have the freedom to choose out attitude. You have a choice. You don’t need to let your attitude destroy your life. You can take charge!
The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance. ~ Viktor Frankl
Here are a few ways that can help you dump the bad attitude and pick a better one.
1. Let Go
Sometimes we hold things too tightly. We get so angry that our favorite team lost, that our car broke and that our hair is a mess. It is time to let go. Give the trouble that you face over to God and trust that he will help you through them. God never promised us an easy ride through life, but he did promise to take the journey with us.
2. Accept Reality
Maybe you just lost your job, a loved one, or your TV remote? Accept it and move on. When things are our of your control they are in God’s. You may not be able to change the current circumstance that you are in, but you can accept it.
We can try to fight reality and deny the things going on in our life, but that gets us no where. Once we accept the situation we are in we will be in a much better place to move forward.
3. Be Grateful
Are you one of those people that can always find something to be thankful for? If not, it is time to start looking. We often get sucked into a few negative things that are going on that we totally ignore all the blessings that are in our lives.
A grateful heart attracts the blessings of God and a complaining heart pushes God away. If you wake up in the morning and you are feeling negative take time to thank God for the good things in your life. Keep thinking of things that you are thankful for until the negative feelings that you have slowly fade away.
Attitudes are contagious. Is the attitude you are spreading a good one or a bad one?
